There 's nothing like an ugly loss to put a damper one of the biggest wins of the year. The top-ranked baseball team exploded for five runs in the eighth inning Tuesday to beat No. 7 Baylor University 6-1 at Cameron Field. But the Owls followed the win with a stinker at the Universitv of Houston the very next day. The Cougars, behind a three-run homer off senior starter Stephen Bess, put up seven runs in the middle innings to beat Rice 8-3 in the final game of the Silver Glove Series, which the Owls won 3-2. The loss comes in the middle of a tough stretch of eight games in nine days and snaps Rice's season-high 12-game win streak. While it would have been unfair to expect the Owls to win all eight games, especially coming off a three-game series at the University of Hawaii, the team was still upset with the loss.
